Over the last few months, Henrik Schodt has emphatically re-emerged in the progressive scene, with a slew of top-charting releases on various leading international labels. Formerly working under the celebrated "Riko" alias, Schodt has fashioned a new identity as a veritable maestro of pensive, yet uplifting progressive, never more evident than on his new Mango Alley release "Bloc 9". String stabs and industrial sound effects (in the spirit of an inspired assembly line) are met by a triumphant lead synth. In the main break, the introduction of a detuned melodic variation brings the track to a climax. Dutch artist The Remedy (a.k.a. SQL) has provided the first remix in the package, adding innovate techno-influenced effects and glitches to the enhance the main melody. Japanese producer Makotrax was in charge of a second remix; true to form, he infuses the original melody with a new rhythm section, underscored by his trademark techy sound design. This brilliant interpretation culminates post-breakdown, when all of the shifty rhythms and glitchy effects coalesce with the resonant lead synth.
