With Christian Smith's remixes of Underworld dominating playlists throughout the summer his Tronic imprint has furthered its reputation for essential peak time material and its latest release sees Brazilian DJ and Wehbba collaborator DJ Anna step up to the mark.
Originally from Sao Paolo, a city which Smith himself now calls home, DJ Anna has made a name for herself as one of the worlds finest clubs, D-Edge. Her dancefloor rousing acumen and deft programming has also translated to production and since 2008 has seen her rise from one of Brazils most loved DJs to one of its most hotly tipped producers.
Annas debut release from Tronic, appropriately titled Behind the Groove is a light, airy release that sits firmly on the housier side of Tronics output.
The title track is a delicately appointed groove that fuses filtered vocal, bass and strings to subtle, rounded drums and uses a liquid, flowing arrangement to tease out and highlight various elements superbly. While each element is unassuming the combination is powerful, hooky and infectious.
The flipside cut, I Am, is equally as effective but sees the Brazilian producer employ the same production techniques to create a skippier, more intense feel. Centred around a funked up bassline the track snakes its way to a upbeat crescendo that has been hammering floors throughout the summer.
