The NYC house / tech evolution deepens, this time courtesy of Club Shelter owner / resident Timmy Regisford. The sound of New York has shifted ever so slowly since Ferrer & Sydenham Inc's "Sandcastles" (Ibadan) in 2003 broke away from the soulful house tradition. Almost five years later, you can hear the culmination of this and European house and techno influences in the music of a deep house music veteran. Regisford has been reshaping his soulful brand of house for the past few years. In 2006 his collaborations with Filsonik on Unrestricted Access yielded a series of tracky productions that abandoned songs in favor of stripped down beats, a fat bass line and EFX. "Astral Bounce" features a distinctive arpeggiated keyboard solo and screaming, electronic strings arrangement from Shelter protege Quentin Harris. This is possibly Regisford's most powerful piece of NYC house / tech to date. Adam Rios as engineer, gives it a signature raw, Shelter sound that clearly come from this side of the Atlantic.
