At the age of 21, Kim Fai is on the cusp of great things. Hailed by the likes of Steve Angello, Axwell, Deadmau5, Pete Tong, Mark Knight, and beyond, the young lad from Birmingham has enjoyed a somewhat meteoric rise.
His next single, a reworking of Inner City’s house staple, ‘Good Life’, has just been signed to Angello’s Size Records. This is the first time Inner City’s Kevin Saunderson has allowed the track to be released.
‘Good Life’ follows a debut album, ‘Kissing In Krakow’, and releases and remixes on the likes of Toolroom, Big Love, Nervous, and many others. Not bad going for someone who two years ago was more used to trawling Beatport for the latest tracks than invading their Top 10 charts.
His gig schedule reads like a wish list for any aspiring DJ: in addition to being the UK tour support for Deadmau5, he’s played for the Swedish House Mafia at Pacha, Ibiza, Cream, Creamfields, Global Gathering, Ministry Of Sound, the Warehouse Project, Koko, and many more. The buzz has now spread across the globe, with bookings throughout Europe, Asia, and Australia.
Musically, Fai is the master of the darker, techier house groove. Taking elements from techno and electro, his productions pack the kind of energetic punch that has confined all things minimal to yesteryear.
On ‘Good Life’, he’s worked his magic, teasing out the vocal and turning the original into a deep, throbbing remake worthy of a dancefloor circa 2009. Currently rocking the sets of the Swedish House Mafia, Mark Knight, and many more, expect this to soundtrack many an Ibiza closing party this season.
Look out for a remix of ‘Good Life’ from Size Records boss, Steve Angello, who’s championed Kim for some time. The Swedish don also gave the original it’s exclusive first airing live on Radio 1 during the station’s Ibiza weekend.
