Ten Citys fully charged House anthem is back!
Byron Burke, Herb Lawson and Byron Stinglys Deep House group, Ten City were the most prolific artists at the dawn of Ibadan records. A story that still continues today, all started with remixes of Ten City by the king of NY underground House, Kerri Chandler.
A pure House record in every form: Whatever Makes You Happy (The Union Vocal) is just a feel good House record. Kerri adds his signature thick and crunchy 606 drums, floating string delays and organ section. All sounds that typified premium 90s House music.
A2. features The Union Instrumental version. The classic House stabs take you to the driver seat along with a slightly added synth-organ melody that escalates from low to high in range.
The flips side carries, Babatunjis Dub. A true Kerri crafted dub that sticks to some bubbling drum percussion and chopped remnants of the organs stabs, allowing the drums to breath. A thin modulating organ sound makes its way back in, but with a Dub-Reggae aesthetic.
Doing the honors of capping off one of Ibadans first releases is the, Classix Vocal mix. Another Kerri rendition where Byrons voice takes center stage, albeit this time, wrapped around clean effects and chopped with clever editing techniques.
If House is your passion, then this truly is one record that your collection cannot be complete without.
