‘I know I’m rushing, just a little bit too fast’. Those lyrics may sound familiar but the source, ‘Special’ by Sir James probably isn’t; just the fourth release on Strictly Rhythm it was little noticed at the time. But the quality of the accapella, handily included on the vinyl, didn’t escape attention altogether. During the sampling frenzy of the ‘90s every single line of ‘Special’, verse and chorus alike, was duly plundered, most famously contributing that vocal hook to Bump’s ‘I’m Rushing’. Chocolate Puma, a duo allegedly familiar with the sample cut and paste style, apply James’ enduring vocal magic to their stripped down, jagged beats for a brace of mixes that are for once officially endorsed and approved.
