In the beginning there was Jack, and Jack had a groove...and one kid loved this groove more than anything else in theworld.Born in Ireland, raised in Spain and currently residing inGlasgow, Scotland, his upbringing was a multicultural one. From a young age he benefited from a musical education, both in and out of school; but it wasn't until after a chanceencounter with some deep, hypnotic sounds in his teensthat his true 'musical education' began. Exploring all sorts ofweird, futuristic sounds, he particularly loved the buildinghouse tracks put out by labels like Hooj and made by artistslike Danny Howells and Spirit Catcher, as well as the Detroittechno and electro sounds associated with the BellevilleT hree, Underground Resistance, Plastikman etc.His love of ambient soundscapes and harsh, poundingrhythms quickly became an obsession, and that obsessiongradually developed into a desire to make his own. Likemany of his heroes before him, he took the time to learn howto use machines and electronics to express feelings and tellstories through sound. T he aim was simple: useexperiences from the past and emotions from the present tocreate music for the future. Somewhere along the line, BoomMerchant was born. Various influences have come together to shape the BoomMerchant sound; raw acid house and blissed out Balearicvibes combine with London bass music and stripped-downfunk to create a unique, fresh sound. With new live and studio projects in the pipeline, and astring of releases coming up in the next few months onsome very reputable labels, we'll be hearing a lot more fromBoom Merchant in the near future!
