Tahuna Breaks have always encompassed a rich diversityof musical genres and styles.With six members, the group’s live act is energetic, raw andlarge. It combines aspects of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and isinfluenced by artists as varied as James Brown to DaftPunk. T he band are well known for being unafraid to mixgenres and have honed their sound on the live stage thatencompasses funk, disco, soul, live electronics and roots.Since inception over 5 years ago, the band have gainedmomentum, focusing more and more on addictive rhythmsthat get audiences moving. T hey have an appetite forcontinuously progressing and pushing boundaries in theirlive performance, and audiences have already begun takingnote of the band’s shift towards a sound that is bigger,darker and heavier.Regulars at major events, the band have performed at T heBig Day Out, Homegrown, Highlife NYE, Rhythm & Vines andmany other major festivals across both New Z ealand andAustralia, along with countless tours and sold outperformances.In 2007 they released their debut album Reflections whichwas followed closely by their highly anticipated secondalbum Black Brown & White in 2009. Both records chartedstrongly, won awards and have firmly cemented TahunaBreaks’ place on the New Z ealand and Australasian musicscenes.Tahuna Breaks have entered the new decade with a freshfocus and a new challenge. March 2013 saw the Aucklandbasedgroup release their third major release ‘Shadow Light’under the guidance of UK producers ‘Crazy P’. Featuringoriginal and remixed tracks, this album reflects the band’sprogression and focus toward the more dance-orientatedfunk sound that they’ve been so well renown for.
