Rashid Ajami first discovered the vibrant rave and dancemusic scene whilst living in his hometown London. Itgrabbed his imagination and nurtured a desire to createemotive electronic music. His interests range across thewide spectrum of the scene and he enjoys experimentingwith many different sounds.His first official release was in early 2012, a progressivehouse track on Sambuca, entitled ‘Lets Be Free’. Remixescame from Jerome Isma-Ae and tech duo David Amo & JulioNavas. T he track reached No. 1 on Juno Download andentered the Top 10 on Beatport’s Progressive House chartand received support from the likes of Paul Oakenfold andAbove and Beyond.More recently, Rashid has brought his soulful vision to deephouse. In August 2012 he released ‘Rule T he World’ withhuge remixes from Maya Jane Coles and Ramon Tapia onYellowtail Records. Reaching No. 19 in the Beatport DeepHouse chart and No. 2 in the German club charts, the EPgained support from many top artists including Tocadisco,Kaiserdisco, Nico Lahs and Andre Crom to name a few. Itwas also included on Wankelmut’s compilation released viaGet Physical music.So far, 2013 has been a defining year for Rashid, havingreleased the massive ‘Unstoppable’ on Kittball Records.Tube and Berger’s remix of the track reached No. 3 in theBeatport Tech House chart with all other mixes alsocharting. Support has come from Roger Sanchez, Coyu, HedKandi and many more.His most recent release, ‘Messenger’ with Jerome Robins,is included on Vol. 13 of Roger Sanchez’s ‘Release Yourself’compilation album via Stealth Records. Roger himself hasfavoured ‘Messenger’, calling it ‘a very deep and sexy track’.Rashid is currently making a name for himself in New York,having founded ‘Afterschool’, a series of events in the cityincorporating art, design and music. A collaboration ofcreative minds, gaining a very loyal underground following.On top of this, summer has brought shows at well-knownspots such as Electric Beach and Marquee Club in NewYork with more dates to be announced.With plenty more tracks in the pipeline, including forthcoming releases on Anjunadeep, Rashid is looking at a very busyyear and is certain to continue turning heads.
